It's been a pain getting stuff off pCloud because of the I/O errors, but I managed to recover most stuff. I have a very large NAS in my basement, but there is stuff I want available from one PC to another and on my cell phones, so I like having a cloud drive for that stuff. I feel a little sad because I really did like pCloud for a long time, but protecting my data is top priority. I have uninstalled pCloud from all of my laptops and desktop PCs and I have, somewhat reluctantly, moved back to Dropbox and I use Google Drive to hold onto non-personal stuff and some encrypted files (I don't trust Google's privacy much).Īnyway, that's my story. I still have two tablets using it, but I don't think there's anything in the directories. I have a lifetime subscription and an unsure what I will do with it now. I can live with a small glitch now and again, but if my data isn't safe at all, I can't keep using the storage provider. If I go to the website and download an archive of the files, I can copy them, but the same files that cause an I/O error when copying from the application are corrupted when extracted from the archive. Additionally, and especially in the past 30 days or so, I have been getting a LOT of I/O errors and have been unable to recover some files. Over the past few months, uploads and downloads from pCloud have been running slow. This time, I was positive it wasn't just a fluke or my memory and that the file was lost due to a problem with pCloud.

I checked the website, looked in the history, recycle bin, the whole troubleshooting process and was never able to recover it or even find evidence that it had existed.

When back on the Windows machine, I figured I'd copy it somewhere to be safe, but both the directory and file were gone from pCloud on the Windows side this time and the file was lost forever.

I restarted pCloud and rebooted my Linux machine (which typically runs 24/7), but no directory and no file. When I again went to my Linux machine, there was no directory or file. Later, when I went back to the Windows machine, the file WAS there so I dismissed it. When I check later on my primary PC (Linux), neither the directory or file were there. I created a new folder on my Windows machine and copied a file. Then, something odd happened just a couple weeks later. I thought this was odd, but I'm usually trying to do several things at once, so I figured that maybe I'd not let the upload complete or I'd accidentally copied it elsewhere even though I was pretty sure I'd verified it.

A few months ago, I backed up my email to pCloud before I wiped my computer and when I went to fetch it to restore it to the new OS, the file wasn't there. Been with pCloud for a few years and for the most part, I have been very happy.
